Removal Vehicle Sizes & Access guide

Removal Vehicle Sizes & Access guide

Check the space, parking and access our removal vehicles need to safely reach your property on moving day.

Planning Access for Your Move

Our removal vehicles come in a range of sizes, and some of our larger vehicles need considerable space to safely access and park outside your property. For perspective, our largest removal vehicles are around the length of a double-decker bus.

Our Removal Vans and Trucks

Bishop’s Move operates a range of removal vehicles to suit different moves and locations. The vehicle allocated to your move will depend on the volume you’re moving, the access available and the requirements of your individual move.

Please note that vehicle dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly between individual vehicles. Additional space will be required for safe parking, loading and unloading.

Normally the right vehicle(s) for your move is identified during your survey. Your Bishop’s Move representative will assess the volume of belongings you’re moving, undertake access checks at both properties and plan the most appropriate vehicle – or combination of vehicles – for your move.

However, if a survey is not possible, or you feel access at either property is restricted – such as narrow gates or restricted access – please let us know as early as possible so this can be taken into account when planning your move.

Can We Access Your Property?

Good access helps your moving day run safely and efficiently. Please consider the route to both your collection and delivery addresses, particularly if we haven’t previously visited the property

Here are some of the most important things to look out for.

Low bridges & height restrictions

Low bridges & height restrictions

Our largest removal vehicles are just over 4 metres high. Please tell us about any low bridges, archways, height barriers, underground or covered parking, low cables or other overhead restrictions on the approach to your property.

Narrow roads & tight turns

Narrow roads & tight turns

It’s not only the width of the road that matters. Large removal vehicles also need sufficient space to turn and manoeuvre.

Please consider narrow lanes, sharp bends, tight junctions and roads where parked vehicles significantly reduce the available width.

Gates & driveways

Gates & driveways

If our vehicle needs to enter a driveway, gated development or private property, please check the width and height of the entrance.

Turning space within the property should also be considered, particularly for our larger vehicles.

Trees & overhangs

Trees & overhangs

Low branches, trees and other overhead obstructions can prevent a removal vehicle from safely reaching your property, even when the road itself is wide enough.

Please let us know if there are any potential obstructions on the approach or immediately outside the property.

Parking

Parking

Our team needs sufficient space to park safely and as close to the property as reasonably possible. Please tell us about:

– Permit-controlled parking
– Yellow lines or loading restrictions
– Resident-only parking
– Time-limited bays
– Bus lanes or cycle lanes
– Parking suspensions that may be required
– Any other restrictions immediately outside the property

Your Move Manager can advise you if you’re unsure.

Private roads & developments

Private roads & developments

Private roads, apartment developments and managed estates may have restrictions on vehicle height, length or weight

There may also be rules about where removal vehicles can park or particular times when moves are permitted.

If applicable, please check with your managing agent, concierge, landlord or property management company before moving day.

The vehicle required will depend on the volume of belongings being moved, your journey and access at each property. Your Bishop’s Move team will plan the most suitable vehicle or combination of vehicles for your move.

Our vehicles need more space than their stated length alone. Additional room is required to approach, manoeuvre and park safely, as well as space for our crew to load and unload.

Consider the complete route to your property, including road width, tight turns, gates, low bridges, overhanging trees, parked vehicles and any height or weight restrictions.

Don’t worry. Depending on the location and circumstances, we may be able to use a smaller vehicle and transfer your belongings to or from the main removal vehicle. Speak to your Move Manager so this can be planned in advance.

You may need to arrange parking or a suspension with your local council, particularly if you’re moving in a town or city. Your Bishop’s Move team can advise you on the space likely to be required.

Please send your Move Manager photographs or a short video showing the road, entrance, driveway and any potential restrictions. We can check these with our Operations team before your move.

Yes. It’s important to consider access at both your collection and delivery addresses, particularly if we haven’t previously visited the property.

The dimensions shown are a guide to the vehicle types within our fleet. Individual vehicles may vary slightly, so please don’t use the measurements as clearance limits. If access is tight, speak to your Move Manager before moving day.
