Moving House FAQs

How much will it cost to move house?
This will depend on what you are moving, where from and to and what type of moving service you require. We can arrange a survey visit to your home and professionally assess the amount you have to move, providing an accurate quotation free of charge. You can also get a quote online. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any advice or to arrange a visit.
How long does it take to move?
Again, this will depend on the size of your house, where your are moving from and to and what type of removals service you require. Most house moves take between 1 and 3 days but could be longer depending on your circumstances. This can be clarified during your home survey or by calling your local branch on 0800 107 8422.
What packing services do you offer?
We can offer you various packing type services: Full Packing Here we carefully and professionally pack all your boxable effects saving you time and effort. You can have peace of mind knowing our professionally trained team have packed all your effects leaving you to concentrate on other matters. Fragile Packing (China & Glass) This option allows us to pack all or part of any fragile effects you have around the home. Our teams are professionally trained packers so relax while we look after those sensitive and precious items in your property. You can then focus on packing all your other personal items prior to the removal. No Packing (Owner Packed/DIY) This allows you to pack all your boxable effects in advance of the move. We can supply you with purpose made cartons to ensure you use the correct type of box for the items you pack. We are happy to advise you further on how to pack or suggest a more bespoke packing option to suit your particular circumstances. See our packing services page for more information.
Are my goods insured?
With our removals insurance you can have complete peace of mind, knowing that your effects are covered against all risks of physical loss or damage (subject to the terms and conditions enclosed with our quotation). Our representative will be able to explain your full cover in detail with you at the time of your survey. Please note that we do insist you are insured but you may take out insurance with a third party if you wish to do so (proof of cover is required).
When is the right time to get a quote?
House moving can be stressful, and being prepared is key to making it all run smoothly. Bishop's Move can provide you a quote for moving house tomorrow, or in a year's time. If you would simply like to know how much to budget for a removals company, please use our online quote form If you would like a more comprehensive idea of price and service,it is best to arrange a free home survey 4-6 weeks before the date you would like to move. If you are moving abroad, then your schedule will be much longer, and may need to factor in shipping times which can be as long as 12 weeks, so getting a international quote as early as possible is always best.

Moving Abroad FAQs

How long will my move abroad take?
This depends on how much you are taking, but a standard 3 bed house will usually take 2 days to pack and then there is the shipping time to your international destination.
Will you pack and unpack?
You can decide on which export packing service you would like, but we do strongly recommend that you allow us to export pack and wrap all items. This means we can offer you full insurance, and most customs houses at destination prefer it, so it makes for a smoother clearance and a less stressful move.
Can I take my car?
Some countries make it easy for you to ship your car with your effects, however the majority of countries apply high duties and a lot of red tape in order to dissuade you from bringing your car in. Some countries even prohibit car importation completely. Always check with the office or your Move Consultant during your free home survey.
What do I need to do on the actual move day?
On actual move day, make sure any items which are not moving with the main shipment are either clearly labelled or placed all together in a separate ares. It is a good idea to have a clear surface space in each room for our crews to use for wrapping and packing smaller items. Lastly, make sure you have a good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits on hand.

What if my company are paying for my move?
We have a specialist department, which is dedicated to assisting employees who are being relocated by their companies. How can we get a quote to relocate our business?
Normally, where possible, we come to the site to carry out a free no obligation survey. This allows us to provide an accurate quotation which will include a full proposal of the planning and method of the move , insurance details and any additional information which will be of help to support our proposal.
Do you hire/supply moving crates to help with an office move?
Yes. We provide a variety of office moving crates as well as building protection material. We hire these to you as part of our business relocation quotation, or as an additional extra. Bishop's Move can delivery or collect in a "next day format" and there is a minimum fee and hire period of 1 week hire.
We would prefer to move at a weekend or out of hours is this possible?
Yes, we have resources in place to support our client's moves 24-7 to reduce the impact of moving on your day-to-day business.
Can you move heavy items such as safes or fire proof cabinets?
Yes, we have the right equipment and staff knowledge to undertake these types of services.
