Green Moves & Sustainable Objectives: How Bishop’s Move is Reducing Its Carbon Footprint
03 Jul 2025
It’s no longer enough for a business to tick a few boxes as an afterthought when it comes to sustainability. With the UK Government committed to reaching net zero by 2050, customers, partners and employees now expect organisations to take meaningful action to reduce their environmental impact – as they should. At Bishop’s Move, we recognise that as one of the UK’s leading removals and storage companies, our operations inevitably affect the planet, and we can help pave the way for other businesses to start updating policies and driving change.
This is why we’ve made it a priority to embed sustainability into everything we do, from the way we move households to how we run our own workplace and support our employees.
How We Promote Sustainability in Our Workplaces and Warehouses
Over several years, we’ve put a real emphasis on bringing the way we run our workplaces up to speed. This has meant a total evaluation of everything we do and the potential environmental impact of those actions. Here, we’ll sketch out some of the ways we’ve worked to make improvements.
Digital First Office
– We’ve worked to move as many processes as possible to digital, focusing on electronic invoicing, digital signatures, e-paperless billing and so on.
– Reducing our paper use has been a huge focus, with a push for recycled paper where printing is unavoidable, as well as double-sided printing and a reduction of physical filing, focusing on digital files instead.
– Use of cloud storage to reduce paper documentation.
Energy Efficiency and Renewables
– Use of LED lights and motion sensors for office lighting.
– Installation of efficient HVAC systems, quality insulation and smart thermostats to reduce energy usage for cooling and heating.
– Rollout of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels and green power tariffs.
– A commitment to energy audits to help identify inefficiencies.
Waste Management & Recycling
– Separation of waste in offices, warehouses and depots by separating paper, plastic, metal, etc.
– Composting, where possible.
– Donation or reuse of unwanted items.
Employee & Culture Schemes
– Cycle to Work and Walking to Work schemes.
– Flexible or remote working, where possible, to reduce the impacts of commutes.
– Green Champions within teams to suggest improvements.
Thinking about your carbon footprint when you move?
Changes in our workplaces aren’t the only ways we work to find ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We’ve also evaluated the way we conduct moves so that we can reduce our impact further. When it comes to removals, we believe that small changes can make a big difference. That’s why we’ve built sustainability into the way we operate—helping customers move with confidence and care for the planet at the same time.
Here’s how we’re making moves greener in 2025
We’re single-use plastic free
We’ve removed plastic wherever possible from our removals and storage process:
– Unbleached wrapping paper to protect delicate items and glassware
– Our professional removal boxes are made from sustainable materials and are reused until ready for recycling.
– We use special paper blankets instead of harmful bubble wrap or plastic shrink-wrap.
These changes reduce waste and help us offer a more environmentally responsible moving service—without compromising on protection or quality.
We’re ULEZ-compliant
Our fleet is ULEZ compliant, meeting the UK’s strictest emissions standards. Whether you’re moving in London, Edinburgh or anywhere in between, you can trust us to move with the lowest possible emissions.
We’re Planet Mark Certified
As part of our long-term commitment to transparent and measurable sustainability, we’re proud to be able to say that Bishop’s Move is accredited by Planet Mark. This respected sustainability certification verifies our carbon data and supports us in reducing our environmental impact each year.
We plant a tree for every move – Bubbatree
Through our partnership with the World Land Trust, we plant a tree for every move we carry out. From local home relocations to international shipping, we help offset the environmental impact of moving and support long-term reforestation.
Did you know? For large commercial relocations, we plant an entire acre of woodland on your company’s behalf – sustainability without compromise.
Choosing Bishop’s Move means choosing a removals company that puts people and the planet first—without sacrificing service, experience or care.
